The early Quakers often came into conflict with the Church of England, which was the presiding religious institution of the time and place where these Friends began their ministry. Over time, the Anglican Church addressed many concerns that Friends had regarding their doctrines and practices, and the gap in understanding between these two groups greatly diminished. The Episcopal Church, being the inheritors of Anglicanism in America, is now much more open to differing expressions of faith than the Church in the days of early Friends, and today we find that there is great overlap in the missions of both Quakers and Episcopalians.
As such, we are happy to partner with our Episcopalian friends in spreading awareness of the truth of the Holy Spirit with our community by sharing a facility and fellowship with them at St. George's Episcopal Church and Community Hall. While our methods and practices are not always identical, the Spirit of Love which we mutually embody is one and the same, and we are assured that together we may help fulfill God's Will with our partnered outreach and fellowship.
Luray Friends Meeting and St. George's Episcopal Church invite everyone to join us in this fellowship!
St. George's Episcopal Church is currently working with the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia and Luray Friends Meeting on several projects to provide visitors and local residents of Pine Grove with several community services, including:
A food pantry for those in need.
Substance abuse resources for those in recovery and their loved ones.
An internet/Wi-fi hub to provide access to those in need.
A quiet venue for spiritual retreats just outside picturesque Shenandoah National Park.
A beautiful space for weddings, receptions, gatherings, and meals.
St. George's Episcopal Church provides important services for both visitors and local residents of the secluded Pine Grove community in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Historically, St. George's was a mission church, where parishioners could come to receive medical treatment, a haircut, and dentistry, in addition to spiritual guidance.
Today, St. George's continues to provide spiritual services to all in need, and is working with the help of Episcopal Diocese of Virginia and Luray Friends Meeting toward the establishment of additional supportive offerings, such as a food pantry, substance abuse services, internet/Wi-Fi connectivity, hot meals, and spiritual retreats/seminars.
Donated funds will be used for the maintenance and upkeep of our facilities (wherever our greatly appreciated volunteer-work does not suffice), such as for the repair and modernizing of our air-conditioning, water-treatment, and heating services. Additionally, donations will be utilized to support our planned services, such as our food pantry and offered Wi-Fi. We greatly appreciate any and all contributions to our mission of serving others and loving our neighbors as ourselves.
